When are wipes not flushable, when they are flushable wipes.  Flushable wipes are clogging sewage systems, causing sewage overflows and clogging.  They are designed to break down but do not.  Kleenex has the same problem.

“Kimberly-Clark, maker of Cottonelle and Scott flushable wipes, does extensive testing to make sure the wipes won’t clog a properly functioning sewer system, spokesman Dave Dickson said. Like other manufacturers, Kimberly-Clark advises customers to flush only one or two wipes at a time.

Dickson said it’s possible that people are putting too much down in a single flush or that the wipes are getting caught up with other materials, such as baby wipes that aren’t designed to break down. Still, he would not advise ignoring Raleigh’s plea.

“You need to do what your authority has requested you to do,” Dickson said. “I would think — and I’m guessing here — there are things being flushed throughout the system that may in fact be causing some problems. And it’s not just from flushable wipes.”

They go on to say:

“If they’re a must-have for your family, we recommend bagging them and tossing them out with the trash rather than flushing.”

So toss rather than flush those wipes.  It is better if you do not use them in the first place.  Perhaps wetting some layered toilet paper can achieve the same results.

You need to get a hand held bathroom bidet sprayer and then you won’t have the clogging problems. With these you almost don’t need toilet paper anymore and it’s much more sanitary. Makes cleaning the toilet itself a breeze also. For those of us who really like to be clean it is the best invention since the toilet. It is so much better than a stand alone bidet and this is why: 1. It’s less expensive (potentially allot less) 2. You can install in yourself = no plumber expense 3. It works better by providing more control of where the water spray goes and a greater volume of water flow. 4. It requires no electricity and there are few things that can go wrong with it. 5. It doesn’t take up any more space, many bathrooms don’t have room for a stand alone bidet. 6. You don’t have to get up and move from the toilet to the bidet which can be rather awkward at times to say the least.
