Local Consignment stores take high quality clothes and furniture and help you sell them.
Worn out clothes given to places like Goodwill and the Salvation Army are resold if they are in good condition, otherwise they are sent to rag sorters who recycle textiles into pieces sold to 3rd world countries, cleaning cloths, or shredded fiber for other purposes.
In the San Francisco area, Non profit Campus California TG maintains clothing drop off bins all over the San Francisco Bay Area. 510-932-3829.
Other local organizations should have clothing recycle programs too.
