Shoe Repair – Eco Friendly and Green

Shoe repair is back in vogue. The economic downturn has pushed people to spend less and become more green and eco friendly.  Shoe repair shops are getting more business.  People are paying to fix their old shoes instead of buying new ones. This is much more green as you are saving on all the rubber, leather, etc used in making new products. Plus you will be saving money.

Some repair places are so busy, they cannot keep up. Whether you come to save money or to be more green, repair makes sense when you love the shoe and are not ready to recycle it.

Wet and snowy environments

If you live in a wet or snowy area, you know what it’s like when your feet get wet and you feel miserable. Wearing hiking boots around all day looks kind of funky. Have you considered overshoes aka galoshes? These are essentially rubber protectors for your shoes. What better way to prevent water damage to your nice shoes?

Nike Air Jordan XX3 Mens Basketball Shoes are more eco friendly this year. Nike is using less adhesives, material waste, and recycled content in this new shoe. This is something they did not want to play up as the consumers of this would not care too much.

Nike Grind recycles old shoes and turns them into useful items. Recycle bins are in all of their Nike US retail stores.

We have one of the best guys in Philadelphia to repair shoes just around the corner from our house. We have been to him many times and he’s saved a ton of shoes for us.

I love that people are doing it for eco-friendly reasons! Did you see Newton Running shoes’ new boxes? Entirely eco friendly.

Just wrote about it on my blog if you’re interested
